Often, customers ask us what they can do to make their grout look new again.
Grout is the material that is installed to fill in the voids between the tiles. Over time, you may notice your grout has changed colors (i.e. dark grout is getting lighter, or your light grout is showing some discoloration). This can be due to improper cleaning products, or minerals in your tap water.
No Worries! You can change your grout color yourself, by using a grout colorant.
We can order it to match a color that you used, or you can lighten or darken the grout if you’d like to change the shade.
It's really easy, just follow the directions on the label, and it’s always good to test a small area first. Maybe in a closet, or under a rug. If you have natural stone (slate, marble, etc) be *very* careful, as the colorant can stain it. This colorant is used more often for glazed ceramic and porcelain tile. I won’t go into the how-to details in this article, but please let us know if you’d like us to write another article that addresses the steps.
Pictured below is a shower with black grout on the dark blue wall, that has lightened over time due to minerals in the water. After applying the grout colorant to refresh the grout, it looks much better, don’t you think?
